August 5, 2007 - The Cedar Rapids Kernels kicked off their longest home stand of the season, 12 games in 13 days, with a 4-2 win over the Clinton LumberKings in front of 3,514 fans Sunday afternoon on Family Fun Day at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The Kernels took the lead in the bottom of the second as Anderson Rosario doubled off the left-center field wall to score Brian Walker and Stantrel Smith. They added to their lead in the bottom of the sixth as back-to-back doubles by Matt Sweeney and Mark Trumbo made the score 4-1 Kernels.

Clinton scored their runs on Mauro Gomez 20th home run of the season, a solo shot with two out in the first and on a pinch hit RBI single by Chris Kemp in the top of the ninth.

Kernels starter Sean O'Sullivan (7-6) held the LumberKings to a run on six hits and struck out four over seven innings pitched to get the win. Barret Browning struck out one in a scoreless eighth inning and Warner Madrigal allowed a run on three hits in the ninth, but picked up his 10th save of the season.

Clinton starter Zach Phillips (10-4) was touched for four runs on seven hits over 5.1 innings and took the loss.

With the win, the Kernels improve their second half record to 20-22 and 58-53 overall as Clinton falls to 19-23 and 60-49.

The Kernels and LumberKings play for the final time in the 2007 regular season Monday night at 7 pm. Fan can enjoy Belly Buster Monday, sponsored by Mix 96.5 FM and WMT AM 600.
