Bertram, De Leon Deliver Early Offense in Whitecaps Win

COMSTOCK PARK - Santo De Leon put the Whitecaps on the board with a three-run homer in the second and Matt O'Brien allowed no earned runs in eight innings on the mound as West Michigan defeated Quad Cities, 8-4.

Michael Bertram went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, 3 RBI and two runs scored.

Bertram also committed a two-out error in the sixth inning, which allowed the first Swing run of the game to score. The next batter for the Swing, Nick Derba, hit a three-run home run, which meant four unearned runs allowed by O'Brien.

De Leon finished 2-for-3 in the game with 4 RBI.

James Skelton was 1-for-2 with three walks and three stolen bases. West Michigan stole six bases in the game.

On May 17 at Quad Cities, the ‘Caps tied a team record with eight steals. On the same day, Deik Scram established a season high with three stolen base, which has only been matched by Skelton.

West Michigan tallied four runs in the fourth inning to go in front, 8-0.
