Fort Wayne, IN - Catcher Justin Pickett was promoted late Saturday from the Eugene Emeralds of the Northwest League to the Fort Wayne Wizards, San Diego Padres officials announced.

Pickett will be in uniform when the Wizards host the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (Seattle Marines affiliate) in game three of their four-game series at 2:00 p.m. today.

Pickett appeared in 26 games for the Emeralds this season, hitting .221 with a pair of doubles, eight home runs and 21 runs batted in. He split time at catcher, first base and as the designated hitter for Eugene.

The addition of Pickett brings the Wizards roster to the Midwest League's maximum 25-player limit.

Pickett was selected by the Padres organization in the 22nd round of the 2006 June Amateur Draft out of Walters State Junior College.

He led Walters State to back-to-back Junior College World Series appearances in 2005 and 2006, hitting .380 with 42 doubles, 31 home runs and 117 RBI in two years. He hit 51 home runs during his high school career at Whitehouse High School near Nashville, Tennessee.

Last season Pickett spent the entire season with the Arizona Padres Rookie League team, hitting .260 with three doubles, one home run and 14 RBI.
