
Kernels complete sweep with 5-2 win over Silver Hawks

April 20, 2008 - The Cedar Rapids Kernels completed a series sweep of the South Bend Silver Hawks with a 5-2 victory on Sunday afternoon in South Bend. The win, the Kernels third in a row, improves their season record to 9-7 and ties the longest winning streak of the season.
Kernels reliever Michael Davitt (1-1) pitched three innings of relief, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out two to get the win. Ryan Brasier gave up two hits in the ninth inning but kept South Bend off the scoreboard to earn his fifth save of the season and second in as many games.
Kernels starter Mason Tobin was lifted after the second inning with a blister on his pitching hand. He had given up two hits and struck out one and had gone out to start the third inning, but could not continue.
Anel De Los Santos was 2 for 3 with a run scored and a stolen base and Jerry Gonzalez was 2 for 4 with a double as the Kernels had seven hits. Tyler Johnson was 1 for 3 with a triple, sac fly and 3 RBI and Donato Giovanatto drove in a run with a sac fly.
The Kernels now head to Dayton for a three game series with the Dragons on Monday at 6:00 pm. Robert Fish is scheduled to start for the Kernels against Scott Carroll for Dayton.
