Cedar Rapids, IA - Justin Bass and Carlos Ramirez hit back-to-back home runs in the fifth inning as the Cedar Rapids Kernels completed a three game sweep of the Quad Cities River Bandits in front to 3,608 fans at Perfect Game Field on Thursday afternoon.
Quad Cities took a 2-0 lead with single runs in the third and fourth innings off Kernels starter Orangel Arenas (4-4) The home runs by Bass and Ramirez tied the game at 2-2 and the Kernels took the lead in the bottom of the eighth on a two run, two out single by Casey Haerther.
Arenas allowed two runs on five hits and struck out three over eight innings for the win and Mike Kenney pitched the ninth for his second save. Quad Cities reliever Joe Kelly (2-4) took the loss, giving up two unearned runs on five hits over 3 IP. Robert Stock and Jason Stidham both added an RBI as the River Bandits were held to just five hits.
