BELOIT, Wisc. - The Kane County Cougars fell to one game under .500 after a tough 3-2 loss Thursday night at Pohlman Field against the Beloit Snappers. The Cougars dropped three of four in the series, scoring just seven runs on 19 hits in the set. Ian Krol contributed his fourth quality start in five outings in the loss.

Krol (2-2) suffered a hard-luck defeat. The lefty was perfect through five and gave up just two unearned runs -- in the sixth -- on three hits over his seven-inning quality start. He walked none and fanned a season-high seven. Josh Lansford took over in the eighth and got touched for one run on one hit.

Down 3-0 after eight innings, the Cougars fought back in the ninth against the Snappers' bullpen. Mike Gilmartin doubled and scored on a single by Anthony Aliotti. After Leonardo Gil reached on an infield single, a Beloit throwing error brought home Aliotti to make it 3-2 and took Gil to third. With one out and the tying run at third, the Cougars' next two batters, Rashun Dixon and Franklin Hernandez, struck out. Kane Holbrooks posted his fifth save, and B.J. Hermsen got the win for the Snappers (25-16).

The Cougars (20-21) continue their eight-game road trip Friday night at 6:30 CT as they start a four-game series against the Clinton LumberKings (20-20). Jonathan Joseph (0-1, 5.23) will get the start for the Cougars. The game will be broadcast on WBIG 1280-AM and online at www.kccougars.com, with pregame coverage starting at 6:15 p.m.
