Kernels break out with 9-1 win over Silver Hawks

April 18, 2008 - The Cedar Rapids Kernels snapped a two game losing streak with a 9-1 win over the South Bend Silver Hawks on Friday night at Coveleski Stadium in South Bend.

The Kernels scored six runs in the top of the third and added three more runs in the top of the eighth.

Kernels starter Michael Anton (1-1) allowed a run and five hits over seven innings to get the win. Efren Navarro was 2 for 5 with two doubles and three RBI. Chris Rosenbaum was 2 for 4 and Jeremy Moore was 2 for 5 with an RBI and stolen base as the Kernels had 12 hits.

South Bend starter Cristian Beltre (0-2) allowed six unearned runs on five hits and struck out four over four innings pitched to take the loss.

Esmerlin Jimenez and Ysmael Carmona combined to allow one hit over the final two innings in relief of Anton.

The win improves the Kernels record to 7-7 as South Bend falls to 2-12.
