Burlington Bees News Release

Comstock Park, MI (April 18, 2008) - The Burlington Bees won on the road for the first time this season as they defeated West Michigan 3-0 Friday night. Back-to-back homeruns in the top of the seventh inning broke a scoreless tie and the Bees did not look back.

West Michigan, which is an affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, had added firepower for the game as Tigers centerfielder Curtis Granderson played centerfield for the Whitecaps as part of a rehab assignment. Granderson went 2-4 with an infield single and a triple but did not score and accounted for half of West Michigan's hits.

Alex Caldera got the start for the Bees and was once again very good. He became the first Bees pitcher to pitch seven innings as he allowed just three hits en route to his first win of the season. Ben Swaggerty and Henry Arias each pitched one inning without allowing a run. Arias picked up his first save of the season.

With no score going into the top of the seventh inning, Whitecap starter Manny Miguelez came back out to pitch. David Lough led the inning off with a homerun to right field. Clint Robinson then made it back-to-back long balls, which ended Miguelez's day. He ended up pitching six innings allowing just the two runs on four hits.

In the top of the eighth inning, the Bees added one more run. With one out, Jason Taylor reached second on an error by West Michigan shortstop Audy Ciriaco. Taylor then scored on a David Lough double.

Mike Moustakas led the way for the Bees as he went 3-4. Lough ended up 2-3 with a run and 2 RBI.

The Bees and Whitecaps will play game two on Saturday afternoon at Fifth Third Ballpark. First pitch is set for 1:00. The game can be heard on 1490 KBUR.
