Beloit Sky Carp News Release

Mother Nature reared her ugly head tonight and cut the game between the Beloit Snappers and Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in half. Luckily, the Snappers were able to hold off a late charge by the Rattlers, and claim the first game of the three-game set, 5-3.

The game got off to a quick start for Beloit, as Joe Benson and Steve Singleton delivered back-to-back homers to lead off the bottom of the first inning. The two blasts put the Snaps ahead 2-0 after one.

Beloit scored two more in the bottom of the second inning to take a 4-0 lead. The inning was highlighted by a Mark Dolenc RBI triple to right. Dolenc's triple scored Ramon Santana, who was earlier hit by a pitch, from third base.

Greg Yersich added to the outburst with a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth. Yersich's bomb gave the Snappers a commanding 5-0 lead after four.

The Timber Rattlers bounced back and put up three runs of their own in the top of the fifth inning. The three runs resulted in Beloit starter Brian Kirwan being replaced by Steven Hirschfeld. Hirschfeld came in and got the final out of the fifth inning, just before the skies opened up.

Rain then cut the game short in the bottom of the fifth and the Snappers came out victorious by a final of 5-3.

Steven Hirschfeld picked up the win for the Snappers, pitching just one third of an inning.
