Dragons Lose 7-2 to Clinton on Friday

Dayton, Ohio - Cristian Santana drilled a home run and drove in three runs to lead the Clinton Lumber Kings to a 7-2 victory over the Dayton Dragons on Friday night at Fifth Third Field before a crowd of 8,899.

The Dragons fell to 8-6 on the season with the loss. They are tied for first place with Great Lakes in the Midwest League's Eastern Division.

Dayton took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Keltavious Jones walked and Jake Kahaulelio followed with a double to right to move Jones to third. Two outs later, Denis Phipps lined a single to center to drive in both Jones and Kahaulelio.

Clinton got on the board in the second when Mitch Moreland doubled with two outs and scored on Jose Felix's single to make it 2-1.

The Lumber Kings scored three runs in the fourth to take command. Santana's two-run home run gave them a 3-2 lead, and a sacrifice fly by Jonathan Greene made it 4-2. Clinton added two more in the fifth and one in the sixth to close out the scoring.

The Dragons were limited to just four hits in the game and just two after the first inning. Clinton starting pitcher Derek Holland (1-0) worked the first five and two-thirds innings, allowing three hits and four walks while striking out six for the win.

Dayton starter Curtis Partch (0-2) allowed six hits and six runs in four and two-thirds for the loss. He walked two and struck out two.

The Dragons host the Lumber Kings at Fifth Third Field again Saturday at 7:05 p.m. Matt Klinker (1-0, 0.00) will start for the Dragons against Clinton's Evan Reed (1-0, 0.00). The game will be televised on Time Warner Cable Channel 3.

Notes: Jones' hitting streak was snapped at six games. He went 0 for 3...Dragons reliever Jeff Jeffords allowed his first run of the season after eight and two-thirds scoreless innings. He worked one and one-third and gave up one run...The loss was the first home defeat of the season for the Dragons after four straight wins...The top four teams in the Eastern Division are separated by just one game.
