Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release

August 2, 2007 - The crowds are turning out to watch their Kernels! Despite five rainouts so far this year, the Kernels attendance for 2007 is running ahead of last year's pace. That's quite an accomplishment. Compared to last season at this time, there had been only one rain out.

This year, the crowds attending Kernels games have more than made up the deficits caused by the early season rains. To date, with 47 games played in Veterans Memorial Stadium, the Kernels have drawn 123,612 fans. The Kernels have averaged 209 more fans per game than in 2006. Jack Roeder, the General Manager of the Kernels, credits the fans and the Kernels organization for what he calls a "huge accomplishment".

The Kernels have had three crowds in excess of 5,000 this year and have the potential for several more before the season ends. Recently, the Kernels averaged 3,657 fans per game during the month of July, the second best average in the history of Veterans Memorial Stadium. Only August of 2002 averaged more spectators, when the Kernels drew more than 3,800 fans per game that month.
