COMSTOCK PARK - Jonah Nickerson stretched his scoreless innings pitched streak to 16.1 and helped the Whitecaps win their third in a row over Peoria, 7-1. The right hander is 10-6 and is the first Whitecap to win 10 games this season.
Nickerson allowed three hits in seven innings on the hill with one walk and four strikeouts. When Nickerson allowed a walk in seventh, it ended a streak of 21.1 innings pitched without a walk. He has also won five decisions in a row over his last seven starts.
In the first inning, Ryan Strieby connected for his 14th home run of the season. The two run blast gave the Whitecaps a 3-0 lead. It followed an RBI double by Brennan Boesch.
James Skelton went 3-for-4 at the plate for West Michigan with a pair of RBI. Gorkys Hernandez was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and two stolen bases. Hernandez leads the Midwest League with 41 steals this year.
The Whitecaps held the Chiefs to eight runs on 19 hits in the four game series and allowed just six walks in 36 innings pitched.
