Kelly Shines in Cougars Win

Geneva, Illinois - Backed by a quality start by Levi Kelly, the Kane County Cougars (39-35, 4-1) knocked off the Beloit Snappers (28-44, 1-3) 8-3 on Tuesday night at Northwestern Medicine Field. The Cougars have won six of their last seven games.

The Cougars first batter of the night, Eduardo Diaz, belted a solo homer to left. On the mound, Levi Kelly retired the first seven batters he faced. He walked a batter in the third and worked around a lead-off error in the fifth. Kelly lost the no-hit bid in the sixth when Skyler Weber ripped a single to right. The next batter, Devin Foyle, roped a two-run homer to put the Snappers in front, 2-1.

The Cougars responded with four runs in the bottom of the sixth. Eddie Hernandez tied the game with an RBI double. Tra Holmes pushed the Cougar ahead 4-2 with a two-run single. Eduardo Diaz tacked on with an RBI knock.

Beloit received an unearned run in the seventh, but the Cougars put the game away with a three-run eighth inning, highlighted by another Tra Holmes run-scoring single.

Kelly (3-0) exited after the sixth inning. He allowed two runs on two hits with three strikeouts and a walk to earn the win. Kenny Hernandez (1) tossed the final three innings to pick up the save. The only run he allowed was unearned. Richard Guasch (0-2) suffered the loss. He allowed all four sixth inning runs.
