Baltimore Blast News Release

Baltimore, MD – The Major Indoor Soccer League announced today that Baltimore Blast defender Danny Kelly has been named the MISL Defensive Player of the Week for the seven-day period ending November 30. Kelly's defensive efforts helped lead the Blast to two road wins last week, 4-3 over the St. Louis Steamers on Wednesday and 10-7 over the Cleveland Force on Friday.

Kelly, 34, recorded one goal and four assists for five points in the two wins and added three blocks. Against the Steamers he recorded an assist to David Bascome to give the Blast a 3-2 lead. On Friday in Cleveland, he scored Baltimore's first goal of the game and went on to add three assists to maintain the Blast's lead. The four points in Cleveland made him just the 21st player in League history to pass the 800-point plateau for his career. He had one block against the Steamers and two against the Force.

A 12-year veteran of the NPSL/MISL, Kelly started his career with the Harrisburg Heat in 1991-92 and has been in Baltimore for six years. Kelly played as a midfielder the last 11 seasons and moved to defense this year to bolster the Blast's defensive efforts. He currently ranks fifth on the Blast in points (eight) and tied for fourth in blocks (seven). Kelly is the third Blast player this season who has earned the League's weekly distinction.

The Baltimore Blast (7-3, tied for first in the Eastern Division with the Philadelphia KiXX) will host the Milwaukee Wave (7-1, first in the Central Division) this Saturday night at 7:35 p.m. at 1st Mariner Arena in a rematch of the 2003 MISL Championship.
