December 1, 2003 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2) News Release

GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK

Victor Nogueira, San Diego Sockers

Nogueira saved 15 of 17 shots faced as his Sockers defeated the Philadelphia KiXX 3-2 on Friday, November 28, at San Diego Sports Arena. The 44-year-old held the KiXX scoreless for the first 56 minutes of the contest, lowering his goals against average to 3.74, second in the MISL. The reigning Goalkeeper of the Year is now third in the League with 480 minutes played, tied for third with 100 saves, and is second in save percentage at .769. Nogueira was also named the MISL's Goalkeeper of the Week on November 10.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Danny Kelly, Baltimore Blast

Kelly led Baltimore's defense to two road victories last week, and along the way became the 21st player in League history to score 800 points for his career. The 34-year-old notched an assist in the Blast's 4-3 win in St. Louis on November 26, and finished with a goal and three assists as Baltimore defeated the Cleveland Force 10-7 on November 28. Kelly reached the 800-point plateau in Cleveland. He also recorded three blocks during the week. Kelly, who had played in the midfield prior to this season, has now scored seven points (two goals, five assists) and blocked seven shots in nine games in 2003-04.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Goran Vasic, Philadelphia KiXX

Arguably the most lethal playmaker in the MISL this season, Vasic scored six points in two games for Philadelphia last week. The 31-year-old registered three goals and an assist on Saturday night as the KiXX defeated Kansas City 13-8, and he assisted on both of Philadelphia's goals in a 3-2 loss at San Diego on Saturday night. Entering the week, the native of Belgrade, Yugoslavia, leads the MISL in scoring with 24 points and is also first with 17 assists. He has now scored at least one point in 13 consecutive games (dating back to 2002-03), including 13 points over his last four outings. Vasic is the first Philadelphia player to win weekly offensive honors this season.
