
Wave Beat Steamers 7-3 for Fourth Straight Win

(Milwaukee, WI) The Milwaukee Wave, fresh off a 7-3 win over the St. Louis Steamers this past Friday (11/28) at U.S. Cellular Arena begins a four-game road swing this Saturday night (12/6, 6:35 PM CST) when it takes on the defending Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Champion Baltimore Blast at First Mariner Arena in Baltimore, MD. Both clubs go into the match with plenty of momentum; the Wave has won four straight and currently sports the league's best record at 7-1, while the Blast has won five-in-a-row to raise its mark to 7-3. It's the second of four scheduled meetings between the clubs this season, with the Wave holding a 1-0 edge in the series following a 7-5 win over the Blast in Milwaukee's home opener at U.S. Cellular Arena on 10/18/03.
Saturday night's contest, like all other Wave games, will be broadcast live on 540 AM, WRRD ("The Word") with air time approximately 20 minutes prior to kick-off (6:15 PM).
Following Saturday's game, the Wave will also visit Philadelphia (12/13, 6:05 PM), Kansas City (12/14, 4:05 PM) and St. Louis (12/27, 7:05 PM) before returning home to host the Monterrey Fury in the annual New Year's Eve Day matinee on Wednesday, December 31, 1:05 PM at U.S. Cellular Arena. Fans can purchase a Family Four Pack that includes four tickets, four hot dogs, and four sodas for just $50 by calling the Wave Office at 414-224-WAVE (9283). (Orders must be placed by December 29.)
Tickets for all Wave home games at $18, $14, and $12 are on sale at the Wisconsin Center District (WCD) Box Office, located between U.S. Cellular Arena and the Milwaukee Theater at 510 W. The Wave spotted the St. Louis Steamers an early 2-0 lead, but regrouped quickly to come back and beat the Steamers 7-3 Friday night (11/28) before 5,509 fans at U.S. Cellular Arena. It was Milwaukee's fourth straight win and improved the Wave's 2003-04 Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) regular season record to a league-best 7-1 while the Steamers fell to 2-6.
Things started well for the Steamers when Steve Butcher converted off a free kick at the top of the penalty area at 2:14 to give St. Louis a 1-0 lead. Craig Scheer followed at 5:21 off a pass from Sipho Sibiya to make it 2-0. Milwaukee began its comeback at 6:54 when Joe Reiniger knocked in an unassisted to goal to make it 2-1. Michael King tallied off a long assist from Greg Howes at 14:31 to even the score at 2-2.
Butcher scored again on a blast from 40 feet out at 5:11 of the second quarter to put the Steamers ahead 3-2. However, the Wave answered with goals from Chris Morman (10:44) and King (12:29) to take a 4-3 lead before halftime.
The Wave continued its run in the third quarter, as Troy Dusosky (3:09) and Morman (3:24) scored on back-to-back restarts to push Milwaukee's advantage to 6-3. Kevin Burk capped off the second half scoring in the fourth quarter as registered an unassisted goal from the top of the penalty area at 7:57. Wave goalkeeper Nick Vorberg stopped six-of-nine shots faced to raise his record to 5-1, while counterpart Brett Phillips (2-4) saved 10-of-17.

*Michael King's two goals on 11/28 v. StL increased his all-time leading Wave regular season total to 485. Now in his 11th season with the Wave, "Kinger" has scored a team record 765 points, including a team record 280 assists. His first goal on 10/31 was the 650th of his career as he became just the seventh player in North American indoor soccer history to reach that level.
*The Wave's "Twin Tandem" - Todd and Troy Dusosky - has now combined for 274 goals (Todd 189 + Troy 85) and 290 assists (Todd 227 + Troy 63) for 564 points (Todd 416 + Troy 148), good for ninth on the MISL's all-time brothers scoring list. The Marinaros (Hector 1892 + Rob 8 = 1900) are the highest scoring brother pair followed by the Pikuzinskis (Rudy 931 + Randy 725 = 1656). The Dusoskys (Todd 367 + Troy 59 = 426) are also the highest scoring brother pair in Wave history ahead of the White brothers (Pat 161 + Erik 9 = 170).
*Joe Reiniger has now scored in five-of-the-last-six games after getting shut out in the first two. Now in his fourth season with the Wave, the former SIU-Edwardsville star has tallied at least one point in 336-of-352 career regular season contests.
*Greg Howes current indoor consecutive games played streak is currently 133 straight (regular season and playoffs). It's the Wave's longest active streak, and the fourth longest streak in team history following Michael King (161), Steve Morris (155) and Pat White (139).
*Goalkeeper Dan Green equaled his career-best 60 minute performance by allowing just one goal on 11/7 v. Mon. Green had previously allowed just one goal on 12/7/01 @ Bal.
Coach Keith Tozer: Now in his 12th season as Head Coach of the Wave (his 20th overall as a professional head coach) Keith Tozer is the winningest coach in the 25-year history of North American indoor soccer. Tozer, who became the first and only coach to reach the 500 win plateau on 4/12/02, currently sports a combined regular and post-season record of 540-344 (.611), including a 321-175 mark (.647) as coach of the Wave. The 46-year old Grosse Pointe, MI native, who is also Milwaukee's Vice President â Soccer Operations overseeing both the Wave indoor and Wave United outdoor teams, began his coaching career as a player-coach with the Louisville Thunder in 1984 following a six-year career in the original MISL. He has led Milwaukee to three league titles and five championship series appearances in the last six seasons.
