Kelly Has Three Hits in Fisher Cats Loss

Reading, PA - Juan Kelly had three hits with a double and two singles, but a five-run fifth inning spelled defeat for the Fisher Cats (Toronto Blue Jays) in a 5-2 loss to Reading (Philadelphia Phillies) on Tuesday night at FirstEnergy Stadium.

The Fisher Cats took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning. Bo Bichette tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly Connor Panas.

Reading put together five consecutive two-out hits to take the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Drew Stankiewicz and Malquin Canelo started the inning with singles. Adam Haseley plated the first run with a single, Cornelius Randolph followed with an RBI double and Damek Tomscha blasted a three-run homer to make it 5-1.

New Hampshire picked up a run in the top of the sixth inning. Juan Kelly doubled and Harold Ramirez walked. Eduard Pinto drove in the run with a single to make it 5-2.

The Fisher Cats had several opportunities late to tie the game, which ended when Reading reliever Jeff Singer struck out Vladimir Guerrero Jr. with two on base. Guerrero finished 1-for-5 with a double.

Tyler Viza (W, 1-3) earned the win for the Fightin Phils, allowing two runs in 5.2 IP. T. J. Zeuch (L, 6-4) took the loss, his first loss since May 18. Zach Jackson, Kirby Snead and Andrew Case combined to pitch three innings of scoreless relief.

New Hampshire will look to avoid a sweep when the series concludes on Wednesday at 12:15 p.m. The Fisher Cats are scheduled to start LHP Tayler Saucedo (2-1, 4.86) against Reading RHP Ranfi Casamiro (4-2, 5.18). Coverage begins at 11:45 a.m. online at nhfishercats.com.
