Utah Grizzlies News Release
The Utah Grizzlies, in conjunction with the ECHL, have announced that the Kelly Cup, awarded to the league's annual champion, will be on display at the E-Center tomorrow evening when the Grizzlies welcome back the Stockton Thunder. Face-off is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
The cup has special meaning to Grizzlies head coach Jason Christie and forward Trevor Baker who won it together while playing with the Peoria Rivermen during the 1999-00 season. The season was Christie's final as a player and Baker's rookie year.
The Kelly Cup has gained recognition and prominence as the championship trophy of the nationwide ECHL and is a symbol of hard work, dedication and excellence at the 'AA' level. The Kelly Cup has been awarded to the ECHL postseason champion each season since 1997 and was won by the Trenton Titans in 2005. The Kelly Cup and the Stanley Cup were both at the ECHL All-Star Game festivities in Fresno, Calif. on Jan. 24-25, marking the seventh consecutive year that the championship trophy of the Premier 'AA' Hockey League was displayed with the championship trophy of the National Hockey League.
For more information on the Kelly Cup's visit to Utah, contact Adrian Denny in the Grizzlies media relations office at (801) 597-4891. The cup will be available to the media throughout the day on Friday and during the game.
