
ECHL Olympic Update

PRINCETON, N.J. - The ECHL is represented by 25 players and former Wheeling
and current Team USA coach Peter Laviolette at the XX Olympic Winter
Games in Torino, Italy.
Nine of the 11 teams have an ECHL player led by Latvia which has eight
former ECHL players including current Stockton Thunder Maris
Ziedins.
Here is a look at how some of the former ECHL players performed on
Thursday:
Mark Streit (Tallahassee, 1999-2000) scored the game-winning
power-play goal and David Aebischer (Chesapeake and Wheeling,
1997-98) made 40 saves in Switzerland's 3-2 win against the Czech Republic.
Tomas Vokoun (Wheeling, 1995-96) made 16 saves in the Czech
Republic's 3-2 loss to Switzerland.
Jan Lasak (Hampton Roads, 1999-2000) made 25 saves in Slovakia's 6-3
win against Latvia.
Aigars Cipruss (Nashville, 1994-96) had an assist and Arturs
Irbe (Johnstown, 2002-03) had 19 saves in Latvia's 6-3 loss to
Slovakia.
Scott Gomez (Alaska, 2004-05) had an assist in the United States'
4-1 win against Kazakhstan.
