
Kay's Shutout, Mazeika's Grand Slam Lead to DH Sweep

Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
Binghamton, NY - The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (21-12) swept their doubleheader at home Tuesday against the Altoona Curve (18-19) at NYSEG Stadium. The Ponies won Game 1 7-0 and Game 2 5-1.
Game One - Rumble Ponies 7, Sea Dogs 0
Anthony Kay threw a 3 hit shutout, issuing just one walk and 8 strikeouts on 87 pitches in the Rumble Ponies 7-0 win over the Curve. Binghamton was also propelled by a six-run sixth inning that blew the game open. In that frame, Barrett Barnes had an RBI double, Patrick Mazeika had a two-run double, and it was capped off by a three-run homer by Dario Pizzano. It was Pizzano's 3rd home run of the year.
Kay goes to 3-2 on the year, dropping his ERA to 1.24, second in the Eastern League. Hitters are only batting .148 against him, lowest in the EL. He has also only allowed 2 runs over his last five starts.
Game Two - Rumble Ponies 6, Sea Dogs 5
Patrick Mazeika's walk-off grand slam gavee the Rumble Ponies a 5-1 win over the Curve to complete the sweep of the doubleheader. With the game tied at one, the Ponies loaded the bases with 0 out in the seventh, as Jason Krizan and Barrett Barnes walked, followed by Arisemendy Alcantara reaching on a bunt single. After Sam Haggerty struck out and Braxton Lee grounded into a fielder's choice, Mazeika stepped to the plate and on a 1-1 pitch drilled a grand slam over the right field wall to end it and extend his team-high hitting streak to thirteen games. It's the Ponies second walk-off victory of the year.
David Peterson allowed only 1 run and four hits over five in his third straight no-decision, though the Ponies have gone on to win all three games. Ryley Gilliam was dominant in relief, pitching two perfect frames and striking out four to get the win to go to 2-0.
POSTGAME NOTES: Mazeika over the two games of the twin-bill finished with 6 RBI...The Ponies have yet to be swept in a doubleheader all year, now with two sweeps and three splits...The Ponies go for the sweep of the Curve Wednesday morning for "Baseball in Education" day, with first pitch at 10:35AM on CBS Sports Radio 1360AM WYOS and on the Binghamton Rumble Ponies Channel on TuneIn...with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pregame show beginning at 10:20AM.
