Karjalainen Assigned to ECHL

CEDAR PARK, Texas - The Texas Stars, American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL's Dallas Stars, announced Wednesday the team has assigned defenseman Miro Karjalainen to their ECHL affiliate, the Idaho Steelheads.

Karjalainen (kair-uh-LIGH-nehn, MEER-oh), 20, signed an AHL contract with Texas over the summer and will be competing in North America for the first time in his career. The 6-foot-7, 225-pound blueliner from Vihti, Finland has appeared in five games with three points (1-23) in Finland's top junior league this season, as well as four games with a goal in Finland's top professional league (Liiga).

Karjalainen is a former fifth-round pick of the Dallas Stars in 2014.

The Texas Stars are the primary development affiliate of the NHL's Dallas Stars, and are currently playing their eighth season at H-E-B Center at Cedar Park.
