Sioux Falls Canaries News Release

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Sioux Falls Pheasants are in search of runs and an answer to the Kansas City T-Bones pitching staff.

For the second straight night, the Kansas City T-Bones blanked the Pheasants, 5-0, on the arm of starting pitcher Kris Johnson (5-3). Johnson tossed a complete-game, six-hit shutout to stymie the Birds.

Pheasants starter Adam Cowart (5-7) looked sharp but gave up a pair of two-out home runs to the big bats in the T-Bones lineup. Ray Sadler knocked a three-run home run in the third inning to break a scoreless tie. After a two-out walk to Jim Fasano in the sixth, Kala Ka'aihue belted a two-run shot to left field to extend the advantage to 5-0.

Cowart suffered the loss, going 5 2/3 innings and giving up four hits. He walked two and struck out five.

The Pheasants bullpen - Ryan Grant, Matt Lintzinger and Brandon Rapoza - combined for 2 1/3 scoreless innings to finish the ballgame.

Johnson threw his second complete game of the year.

Kevin Carby had the only multi-hit night for the Pheasants. He went 2-for-3. Henry Contreras was activated off the disabled list and doubled down the left field line in his first at-bat since August 10.

The Pheasants lost their ninth straight game and fell to 40-53.

Game three of the Pheasants' final road series of the year begins at 7:05 p.m. on Thursday, August 25. Kyle Ruwe will start for the Pheasants, opposed by T.J. Large for the T-Bones. The game will be broadcast on Sioux Falls Sports Radio 1230-AM and www.kwsn.com.
