
X's Drop One Run Game To Saints

St. Paul, MN-----Shane Costa singled to centerfield with one out in the 11th inning to drive home Jake Krause with the winning run as the Saints defeated the Explorers at Midway Stadium Tuesday 10-9.
The Explorers had jumped off to a 6-0 lead in the first inning and then added three more runs in the second to increase the lead to 9-1, but St. Paul kept whittling away and finally tied the game with an un-earned run in the eighth inning to cap off a four-run frame to tie the game at 9-9. The comeback for the Saints ended in the 11th inning for the victory in the first game of the four-game series.
The loss by the Explorers drops them four games behind first place Wichita in the Central Division race and three games behind St. Paul in the wild card pennant race in the American Association. In the loss, the Explorers were led by T.J. Bohn and Mike Murphy who both finished with four hits apiece. Jon Plefka, in relief took the loss for the Explorers while relief pitcher Julio DePaula was the winning pitcher for the Saints. The second game of the series will be Wednesday with game time set for 7:05.
