Amarillo's Two-Out Hits Beat Wingnuts

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts lost 4-3 to the Amarillo Sox at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium on Wednesday night.

Tied at 3-3 in the top of the ninth inning, Adam De La Garza ripped an 0-2 pitch to right-center field for a two-out, RBI single that scored Van Pope with the go-ahead run. Pope started the rally with a bloop single to shallow center field with one out, and advanced to second on Nick Farnsworth's groundout to first. Three of Amarillo's four runs in the game were scored on two-out hits.

Mike Conroy singled up the middle with one out in the bottom of the ninth, but Chad Povich managed a scoreless inning to preserve the win. Povich was the winning pitcher, throwing the final two and two-thirds innings for the Sox without allowing a run.

Tim Alberts lined a two-out single to center in the top of the first to score Ron Fenwick and give Amarillo an early 1-0 lead.

Jimmy Mojica responded in the bottom half, leading off with a double into the left field corner. Josh Horn laid down a sacrifice bunt, and then Mojica came home with the tying run on Juan Richardson's groundout to shortstop.

Wichita rallied for its only lead in the bottom of the second. Jorge Delgado led off with a single up the middle and advanced to second on a groundball. Josh Workman walked before Sox' starter Matt Elliott retired Edwin Bellorin on a popout to short. Conroy connected on a long double to center field that scored Delgado with the lead run. As Conroy was running to second, Harrison Kain's throw from center field bounced by shortstop Jason White, allowing Workman to score the Wingnuts' third run.

De La Garza doubled with one out in the top of the fourth and scored two batters later on a two-out, RBI single down the right field line from Kevin Butler.

De La Garza tied the game in the fifth with an RBI groundout to short that scored Pope from third.

Geivy Garcia took the loss for the Wingnuts, allowing the one earned run in the top of the ninth.

Ryan Hinson started for the Wingnuts and took a no-decision, allowing three runs, two earned, in six innings. Hinson walked two and struck out one while allowing 10 hits. Jared Simont, Eric Gilliland, and Marcos Tabata combined for two scoreless relief innings.

Elliott took a no-decision, allowing three runs, two earned, in six and one-third innings. Elliott allowed six hits, walked four, and struck out two.
