Kannapolis Plates Late Runs To Top Shorebirds, 5-2

Kannapolis, N.C. - After scoring just one run in the first seven innings, Kannapolis scored four runs in the eighth inning en route to a 5-2 win over the Delmarva Shorebirds on Friday night at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. The Shorebirds went 0-for-14 with runners in scoring position.
Kannapolis took an early lead in the first. Dan Black singled to center field to score Carlos Sanchez.
In the second, the Shorebirds tied the game. Michael Ohlman and Jacob Julius hit back-to-back singles. Ohlman advanced to third on a Joe Oliveira groundout. Then, Kannapolis starter Jon Bachanov tossed a wild pitch to bring home Ohlman.
The Shorebirds took their first lead in the sixth inning. Ty Kelly hit a leadoff single. Jeremy Nowak followed with a single to put runners at first and second. Michael Ohlman walked to load the bases. Two batters later, Joe Oliveira hit a sacrifice fly liner to right field to plate Kelly.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Nowak robbed Trayce Thompson of a home run in left field to keep the Shorebirds in front.
Matt Bywater tossed seven superb innings, allowing just five hits and one unearned run. Bywater struck out a career high eight batters without walking a single batter.
Kannapolis plated four runs against relief pitcher Tim Adleman. With runners at first and second, Marcus Semien hit a grounder the left side of the infield to tie the game at 2-2. Then, Dan Black hit a triple to the right field corner to give Kannapolis a 4-2 lead. Adleman tossed a wild pitch to give the Intimidators a 5-2 lead.
Jake Wilson entered in the ninth inning to earn his ninth save of the season.
Nowak went 3-for-4 while Jacob Julius went 2-for-4.
The Shorebirds and Intimidators play game two of the series on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. RHP David Baker is the scheduled starter for Delmarva.
