LAKEWOOD, NJ- The Lakewood BlueClaws were beaten 7-3 on Friday night in the 1st game of their 4 game series against the West Virginia Power. The Power plated 5 runs in the 1st inning and were up 6-0 after 2 innings, and Lakewood just could not overcome that early deficit. The loss is the second straight for the BlueClaws, and drops them to 22-19 in the 2nd Half, 55-54 overall.

Lakewood's SP Ervis Manzanillo allowed the first 5 batters he faced to reach base on a double, a triple, a single, and then back-to-back walks. In all, he was tagged with 5 runs on 3 hits in 2/3rds of an inning. The BlueClaws bullpen was fantastic with Tyler Knigge, Colby Shreve, and Ryan Duke combining to allow just 2 runs in 8 1/3rd innings. Shreve extended his streak of not allowing an earned run to 21 innings before it was snapped on an RBI double by Power catcher Kawika Emsley-Pai in the 8th inning.

Cameron Rupp continued his hot hitting for Lakewood with a 3-4 performance, a run scored, and an RBI. Zach Collier was 2-3 with an RBI double, and Carlos Alonso reached base 3 times on 2 walks and a single. Mel Rojas Jr. had the biggest hit for West Virginia with a 2 out, 2 RBI single in the 1st Inning to make it 5-0, and it turned out to be the game winner.

On Saturday the BlueClaws will host West Virginia for game 2 of their 4 game series at 7:05 pm. LHP Mario Hollands (6-6, 4.48 ERA) will throw the first pitch for Lakewood, and RHP Jameson Taillon (2-2, 4.11 ERA) will start for West Virginia.
