Kannapolis Blanks Delmarva 12-0 in Game One

Kannapolis, N.C. - The Kannapolis Intimidators (33-28) held the Shorebirds to just three hits and scored eight runs in the first two innings to defeat the Shorebirds (32-30) 12-0 in game one at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. The Shorebirds have dropped four straight games.

Kannapolis got on the board in the first inning after Shorebirds starter Tim Berry retired the first two batters. Trayce Thompson hit a double and Dan Black followed with an RBI double. Then, Juan Silverio hit an RBI single to give the Intimidators a 2-0 lead. Silverio moved to third on a single by Rafael Vera and then stole home to build the lead to 3-0.

In the second inning, Kannapolis added five runs to take an 8-0 lead. The inning was capped by a three-run homer for Dan Black.

Kannapolis tacked on a run in the third on a leadoff home run by Kevin Dubler. Shorebirds starter Tim Berry was removed after 2.1 innings. He allowed eight hits and nine runs.

After a 47-minute rain delay in the fifth inning, Kannapolis added one run in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.

Kannapolis starter Matt Heidenreich was removed after 4.1 innings because of the rain delay. Orlando Santos earned the win over 3.2 innings. He allowed just one hit.

Chase Cooney, the younger brother of Orioles farmhand Brandon Cooney, finished off the Shorebirds in a scoreless ninth inning.

The Shorebirds managed only three hits and five total base runners.

The Shorebirds and Intimidators play game two of the series on Monday night at 7:05 p.m.
