KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (June 12, 2011) -- The Kannapolis Intimidators fought past a 47 minute rain delay to a 12-0 shutout win over the Delmarva Shorebirds on Sunday evening at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. The Intimidators led 9-0 when rain came one out into the top of the fifth inning.

Kannapolis jumped in front with a two-out rally in the first inning. Trayce Thompson and Dan Black doubled, followed by a RBI-single from Juan Silverio. Silverio went first to third on Rafael Vera's base hit and stole home for an early 3-0 lead.

Kevin Dubler tripled to lead off the bottom of the second and came home on a Kenny Gilbert sacrifice fly to left field. After consecutive walks to John Spatola and Brady Shoemaker, Thompson singled in Spatola, and Black emptied the bases with a three-run home run (9) for an 8-0 lead. Dubler led off the bottom of the third with home run (2) to right field to make it 9-0.

Dubler finished 3-for-5 and a double shy of the cycle with two RBI and two runs scored, and Black went 3-for-5 with a home run, two doubles, four RBI and three runs scored.

Delmarva starter Tim Berry (1-4) lasted 2 1/3 innings, allowing nine runs on eight hits with three walks and two strikeouts in a losing effort before Ryan Palsha came on in relief.

The Intimidators tacked on runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh, including an RBI-single from Dubler and a sac-fly from Thompson.

Orlando Santos (1-0) earned the win, going 3 2/3 scoreless innings of relief of Matt Heidenreich, who didn't allowed a run in 4 1/3 innings of work before rain halted his start two outs shy of a win. Chase Cooney pitched a scoreless ninth for Kannapolis.

The Intimidators continue their four-game series against the Shorebirds with Belly Buster Monday at 7:05 p.m. at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. It's all-you-can-eat at the main concessions stand (excluding drinks & candy) for only $10.
