Hickory Crawdads News Release

ASHEVILLE, NC - The Hickory Crawdads tied a season-high with seven runs in the third inning and cruised to the 12-3 win against the Asheville Tourists on Sunday, before 1,480 fans at Historic McCormick Field. The first pitch was delayed for 53 minutes due to rain.

Hickory has now won six of its last seven games to move into a tie for second with the Greensboro Grasshoppers, only two games behind the first-place Hagerstown Suns with seven games remaining in the half.

The Crawdads (35-27) raced in front with 10 runs through the first four innings, all starting with a two-run double by LF Jonathan Roof in the top of the second against RHP Erik Stavert (L, 2-4) for the early 2-0 lead.

The 'Dads opened up the big lead with seven runs in the third. SS Jurickson Profar, 2B Odubel Herrera and C Tomas Telis loaded the bases with three straight singles, before 1B Andrew Clark drove a two-run single off the center-field wall to make it 4-0. During the at-bat of Richmond, Telis came in on a wild pitch and Clark moved to second. Richmond then doubled, putting runners at second and third, and CF Jake Skole followed with a two-run double of his own, making it 7-0. DH Alejandro Selen put a powerful cap the huge frame with a two-run bomb, giving the Crawdads the 9-0 lead.

Hickory added on to the advantage with their 10th run in the fourth on another double by Skole, making it a 10-0 lead for the 'Dads, before Asheville (30-33) finally got on the board against RHP Cody Buckel (W, 2-2) in the fifth. SS Christian Adames hit the first of his two homers on the day in the fifth frame, cutting the lead to 10-1 in Buckel's final stanza on the mound.

The 'Dads stretched it back to a 10-run lead when Roof scored on an error in the seventh, before Asheville belted a couple more solo homers against RHP Ben Henry. Adames hit his second long ball in the bottom of the seventh and LF Corey Dickerson knocked one out in the eighth, cutting the Crawdads lead to 11-3.

Selen answered with a solo home run of his own in the top of the ninth, his second homer of the game, and RHP Jorge Marban dealt a three-up, three-down bottom of the ninth to close the 12-3 win for the Crawdads.
