Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
LEXINGTON, KY - The Kannapolis Intimidators (17-16, 45-56) quickly bounced back after their tough loss Tuesday night against the Lexington Legends (14-18, 51-50) on Wednesday afternoon with an offensive explosion that led to an 8-0 win.
The first three innings were scoreless for both sides, but in the top of the fourth the Intimidators offense came alive. Corey Zangari continued his hot hitting to start the road trip with a double that scored Andrew Vaughn to take a 1-0 lead. Amado Nunez then reached on a fielder's choice to score Zangari in the process. The next batter, Michael Hickman, extended the lead even further in the inning with a three-run home run (6) to take a 5-0 lead.
Despite running into some trouble in the bottom of the second inning, things were all Jason Bilous (W, 3-6) during the first five innings. He allowed just four hits and struck out seven. Wilber Perez (S, 3) came in for Bilous.
Besides the fourth inning, the top of the seventh is when Kannapolis did the rest of their damage. Camilo Quinteiro continued his hot start in the uniform with a double to drive in Hickman for a 6-0 lead. Next up was the White Sox number two prospect, Vaughn, who hit his second home run as an Intimidator to score him and Quinteiro to take an 8-0 lead.
The Intimidators went on to win by that score line and for his second straight time on the mound, Wilber Perez pitched a hitless outing. Over his last two appearances, he's totaled 8.2 IP, given up no hits or runs, and struck out nine batters.
Vaughn, Alex Destino, and Romy Gonzalez all had two-hit days for the Intimidators.
Kannapolis will go for the series win on Thursday against Lexington at 7:05 p.m. Kevin Folman (0-2, 4.86 ERA) will be the starter for the Intimidators looking for his first win of the season.
