Parra Once Again Shines in Greensboro but T's Come up Short

Asheville Tourists News Release

GREENSBORO - Some baseball players just have a certain road ballpark in which they can do no wrong. For Asheville Tourists starting pitcher Frederis Parra, that ballpark is First National Bank Field; home of the Greensboro Grasshoppers. Unfortunately, Parra's home away from home was not enough to pull the Tourists through as Asheville fell late to Greensboro 3-2.

Parra loves pitching in this park. In 2018, Frederis' third career start with the Tourists came in Greensboro. The right-hander threw eight shutout innings and won. A little later in the year Parra pitched six innings of one-run ball against the Grasshoppers, and won. This afternoon, Parra split the difference. He tossed seven innings and his only blemish was a two-out two-run Home run in the second. He finished his outing by retiring 13 of the last 14 batters he faced.

Asheville did a nice job overcoming the early 2-0 deficit. Niko Decolati delivered a two-out RBI single in the top of the third to plate Kyle Datres and cut the Grasshoppers' lead to one. Then in the sixth, Grant Lavigne doubled in Terrin Vavra to tie the game. Lavigne ended up at third after a pick-off throwing error but the Tourists were unable to bring him in.

The Tourists only managed one base-runner over the final three innings; however, the pitching and defense continued to be solid and it seemed like extra-innings were imminent. That is until Greensboro collected a pair of very fortunate hits in the bottom of the eighth. A bloop double followed by a sacrifice bunt put the go-ahead run at third. The next batter hit a pop up to shallow right field that found a soft spot in the defense. That sequence won it for the 'Hoppers.

Asheville swiped three bases in the loss and battled the entire way. The Tourists still have an opportunity to capture the series with Thursday's double-header scheduled to begin at 5:30pm.
