CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA - Four runs in the ninth inning lifted the Kane County Cougars to a 5-1 victory Sunday against the Cedar Rapids Kernels at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium. This three-game series is now tied at 1-1 heading into Monday's rubber game at 12:05 p.m.

Quality starts from Levi Kelly and Andrew Cabezas opened the Sunday matinee. Kelly posted a career-best 10 strikeouts over six shutout innings for Kane County (8-2, 43-36). Cabezas yielded one early run for Cedar Rapids (4-6, 43-37) before finishing with a personal-high eight innings pitched.

Eduardo Diaz wasted no time and gave the Cougars a 1-0 advantage during the first inning. On the second pitch of the game, Diaz crushed a solo shot to left field to put Kane County in front.

The Kernels were scoreless until plating the game-tying run within the seventh. Ben Rodriguez drew a leadoff walk and advanced on a groundout from Jared Akins. Two batters later, Trevor Casanova doubled into the left-field corner to drive in Rodriguez and even the score at 1-1.

Kane County broke the late tie with a four-run rally in the final frame. A dropped line drive allowed Diaz to come home, and Dominic Fletcher followed with his first professional home run by hitting a three-run blast to left field that pushed the Cougars to their 5-1 edge.

Wesley Rodriguez (3-1) was charged with a blown save but also picked up the win Sunday. Jose Martinez (4-3) allowed Kane County's go-ahead outburst in the ninth and was tagged for the loss.
