SATURDAY NIGHT: The TinCaps lost to the Loons, 7-6, in 10 innings. Fort Wayne left 18 runners on base, the most the team had left on base in a game since stranding 18 in an 18-inning game against Burlington on April 16, 2014.

CANCER SURVIVORS DAY: The TinCaps are wearing special jerseys today that are being auctioned off on TinCapsJersey.com with the proceeds going to Parkview Foundation's Transformative Cancer Care Fund. Before the game, Dr. Neil Sharma, President of the Parkview Cancer Institute, will throw out a first pitch, along with Bob Lang, who designed a t-shirt for "PCI." During the middle of the fourth inning, there will be a special recognition for cancer survivors at the ballpark.

AROUND THE SYSTEM: The Padres' Short-Season affiliate, the Tri-City Dust Devils, threw a no-hitter on Saturday night in a 5-0 win at home over the Everett Aqua Sox (Mariners affiliate). Jason Blanchard, started and went 2 innings, followed by Ramon Perez (who pitched in 11 games for the TinCaps in the first half) going 4, Dominic DiSabatino 1, and Deacon Medders the final 2... Kelvin Melean, who was sent down from Fort Wayne on Friday, started at third base and made the best defensive play of the game in the seventh inning when he made a diving stop on a ball that was hit 108 MPH, and then threw to first in time for the out.

WEEKEND WOES: For what it's worth... the TinCaps are 28-14 in games played Monday-Thursday, but 8-27 in games on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

X IS A FACTOR: Infielder Xavier Edwards was the MWL Eastern Division's leadoff batter and starting second baseman in the All-Star Game and this explains why... He leads the league in batting average (.338) and OBP (.394) and is tied for 3rd in stolen bases (19). Edwards also has the 3rd lowest swinging strike % (4%), the 5th lowest K% (10%), and the 8th best BB/K (0.79)... 47% of the balls he's put into play have been hit the opposite way, the highest rate in the league... 29 of his league-high 94 hits have come on the first pitch of an AB as he's hit .492 in 0-0 counts... Saturday marked his second 4-hit game of the season. He also has a 5-hit game.

MAKING HIS MARK: Infielder Tucupita Marcano has the 3rd lowest K% in the MWL (10%) and the 4th lowest swinging strike % (4%).

MEXICAN POWER: Outfielder Agustin Ruiz has launched 4 homers over his last 17 games after not homering in his first 51 games of the season. Over his last 13 games, since June 12, Ruiz has slashed .375/.400/.607 (1.055 OPS). In this span, his BA is 3rd in the MWL, while his OPS ranks 4th... His 42 RBIs on the year tie him for 9th in the MWL... 22% of the balls he's put in play have been line drives, the 6th highest LD% in the league.

SOLO ACT: Infielder Lee Solomon is 3-for-7 over the last 2 games with a double, a home run, and 3 RBIs.

CATCHING UP: After starting the season 0-for-18, catcher Juan Fernandez is 28-for-86 (.325) since.

IN CONTROL: TinCaps pitchers have the best ratio of strikeouts to walks in the MWL this season (3.09). 'Caps pitchers have also walked the fewest batters in the MWL, averaging only 3.0 per 9 innings.
