Great Lakes Loons News Release

FORT WAYNE, IN - Great Lakes Loons infielder Luke Heyer had never thrown a pitch in his professional career... until Saturday night. With the Loons bullpen short-staffed, Heyer was called into action and allowed zero earned runs in two innings aiding the Loons in a 7-6, 10-inning victory over the Fort Wayne TinCaps.

The second-year pro out of the University of Kentucky took the mound to begin the ninth inning with the score tied 5-5. Heyer (W, 1-0) proceeded to strikeout two TinCaps with one out and two runners on sending the game to extras. In the next inning, Heyer put the winning run at second base but with the bases loaded and no outs he struck out Michael Curry and got Lee Solomon to bounce into a 6-4-3 double play.

Dillon Paulson looked to be the headliner early for the Loons as he tallied the first multi-HR game of his single-A career. His first long ball came against Omar Cruz in the first inning. Paulson's second of the night and tenth of the season left the yard to lead-off the fifth inning against Adrain Martinez.

Late offensive heroics were supplied in the tenth inning by Chris Roller (RBI-triple) and Jair Camargo (RBI-single). Both hits came off Henry Henry (L, 7-3).

After ending their longest losing streak of the season at four games, the Loons look forward to game two of their current three-game series on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is set for 3:05 p.m. EDT.
