Southwest Michigan Devil Rays News Release
The Devil Rays entered Tuesday night's game in hopes of earning a series split against South Bend and keep in the chase for the final playoff spot in the Eastern division. Unfortunately, the Rays fell to the Silver Hawks 5-0 and Fort Wayne defeated West Michigan to distance themselves from the pack. The Devil Rays are now five games back in the playoff hunt.
Jeff Kamrath got the spot start for the Devil Rays and lasted 5.1 innings. Kamrath's start was his first since June 9th against South Bend. Kamrath was impressive considering he hasn't started in almost two months. In the first inning, Kamrath struck out 4 batters in the first inning. It happened when Leyson Septimo stuck out swinging and Christian Lopez failed to control the ball and make the putout at first. Kamrath ended his night with a career high ten strikeouts. He allowed five hits and five earned runs including a three-run long ball from Frank Curreri.
Eddie DeLaCruz entered in relief of Kamrath in the sixth inning. He lasted 1.2 innings allowing only one hit with two strikeouts and two walks.
Eric Durante saw his first action in a Southwest Michigan Devil Ray uniform since July 1st when he was sent down to Hudson Valley where he played 22 games. Durante went 2-3 with a double.
The Rays had problems at the plate on Tuesday night as they only recorded four hits. On the bright side, three of the four hits were doubles. Cesar Suarez recorded a double in every game this series for the Rays, including a pair on Monday night.
The Southwest Michigan Devil Rays have the day off on Wednesday and then travel to Dayton for a four game set with the Dragons. They return home on Friday, August 18th to play their final series at C.O. Brown against the Dragons where there will be fireworks after the game.
