Kalamazoo Wings News Release
With series tied at two games apiece, Kalamazoo returned to Wings Stadium on Friday (4/20) to host the Flint Generals in Game Five of the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals. Executing on a breakaway, Lucas Drake (2) scored, giving the K-Wings a 1-0 lead at 11:46. Just 17 seconds after the K-Wings took the lead, the Generals answered back with a deflection from Mike Kinnie (6). In the second stanza, Bogdan Rudenko (2) created a turnover and matriculated up the ice for the goal at 4:20. Giving the Generals their largest lead of the night at 8:04, Jason Selleke (1) knocked in a rebound in front of the crease. Paul Caponigri (2) cut the Generals lead to one with a rebound with 2:31 left in the period. Early in the third period, Nick Bootland pulled the K-Wings even at 3-3 with his second of the postseason. The score remained deadlocked the remainder of regulation and for the second straight game, the contest would head into overtime. Bootland (3) would send the ruckus crowd of 2,643 home happy lighting the lamp for the second time in the encounter at 8:50 into the extra session, giving the K-Wings a 4-3 victory and a three games to two lead in the series.
With a chance to close out the series, the K-Wings traveled to Flint on Saturday (4/21) for Game Six of the Best of Seven Series. For the first-time in the series, Flint jumped ahead scoring the contests initial goal. At the 15:51 mark, Kinnie (7) scored on the power-play from in front of the crease. Flint extended their lead 3:42 into the second period with a power-play tally from Shaun Snider (3). Erasing a two-goal deficit, Kalamazoo answered back with two goals. Tyler Kindle (1) struck on the power-play to cut the Flint lead to 2-1. Just over three minutes later, Tyler Willis (1) stopped in front of the crease and scored to tie the game at 2-2. For the third-time in the game, Flint's power-play generated a scoring opportunity, this time it was Jeff Zehr (1) finding the rebound to give the Generals a 3-2 lead. For the second straight night, Kalamazoo dug itself out of a deficit, on one knee, Drake (3) pushed the puck past goaltender Jason Muzzatti to tie the game at 3-3. The score remained tied the remainder of regulation and for the third straight game, the K-Wings and Generals would head into overtime. Scoring on a slap shot from the slot at 7:10 into the extra session, Karlander (4) propelled the K-Wings into the Eastern Conference Finals with his game-winning goal giving Kalamazoo a 4-3 overtime victory and a four games to two series win.
Fast Forward
Kalamazoo will travel to L.C. Walker Arena to battle the Muskegon Fury in Games One and Two of the Eastern Conference Finals. Game One of the series will occur at 7:30 p.m. on Friday (4/27), while Game Two will face-off at 7:30 on Saturday (4/28). This will be the first-time since the 2000-01 season that Kalamazoo has squared off against Muskegon in the playoffs. During the 2001 playoffs, the K-Wings lost 6-3 to the Fury in a one game Wild Card playoff at L.C. Walker Arena. This season, Kalamazoo was 6-5-1 against Muskegon, including 3-3-0 at L.C. Walker Arena.

Kalamazoo has gone into overtime in the last three games. This season the K-Wings are 2-1 during the extra session and 5-3 all-time in their UHL history.
Making a Comeback
The K-Wings erased two-goal deficits in both Game 5 and 6 to win the series against the Flint Generals. They also trailed by a single goal in both games. The K-Wings are currently 3-0 in the playoffs when trailing after one period of play.
Streaking Through
Forward Nick Bootland and defenseman Chris McAllister are both riding point streaks into the next round. Bootland, who has a five game point streak, has scored three goals and four assists in those games. McAllister has had three assists and scored one goal during his four game point streak.
Making History
On April 21st, Kory Karlander and Tyler Willis passed Mark Vilneff for first place in K-Wings UHL franchise history for games played in a playoff career (25). Karlander scored the game-winner in overtime that night to advance the K-Wings to Eastern Conference Finals.
The Obscure Stat of the Week
Tyler Willis marked his first playoff point on Saturday (4/21) with a power-play goal in the second period. The goal by Willis made Kalamazoo the only team in the playoffs that have every skater that has dressed with at least one point.
