November 9, 2004 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release
For the first-time in franchise history, the K-Wings faced-off against the Kansas City Outlaws on Friday, November 5th at Wings Stadium. Kalamazoo jumped out to the early lead, when Ryan Barnes scored his second goal of the season on a slap shot 5:41 into the opening period. Late in the first period, the K-Wings would beat the clock to extend their lead to 2-nothing. With just 1.2 seconds on the game clock, K-Wings forward Tyson Turgeon (1) scored on a wrap around to give Kalamazoo the momentum going into the second period.
Kansas City scored the lone goal in the second stanza, as Simo Pulkki's (1) slap shot from the left point cut the K-Wings lead to 2-1.
In the third period, an early power-play goal from Joe Seroski (10) tied the game at 2-2; however, the K-Wings answered back with two unanswered goals. First it was Yannick Carpentier completing a give and go pass from Tyler Willis to record his first goal of the season and regain a 3-2 lead for Kalamazoo. Midway into the final period, the K-Wings would strike again, this time it was Andrew Luciuk snipping a wrist shot from between the circles to extend the K-Wings cushion to 4-2. After a Jason Ruff (3) goal cut the K-Wings lead to a single goal; the K-Wings added some insurance late in the game, as Carpentier scored his second goal of the game on an empty-net goal with one-tenth of a second remaining to give the K-Wings a 5-3 victory over Kansas City.
The K-Wings concluded the week on Saturday (11/6), as they played game three of a four game home stand against the Eastern Division leading Elmira Jackals. After watching the Jackals storm out to an early 2-nothing lead, the K-Wings mounted a comeback late in the second period, while on the power-play, Daniel Carriere (1) was able to skate in between the circles and rifle a shot past Elmira's Greg Hewitt to pull the K-Wings to within a single goal. For third time in their last seven goals, the K-Wings were able to beat the game clock to score a late period goal, this time it was Tom Ditzer flinging a pass in front to David Hukalo (2), who one-timed it in with three-tenths of a second remaining in the second period to tie the game at 2-2.
In the final stanza, the K-Wings poured on the offense scoring the game's next three goals to push Kalamazoo ahead 5-2. The Jackals would score one last goal, but it wouldn't be enough as Kalamazoo went on to a 5-3 victory over Elmira.
