STIRLING STOPS 40+ FOR SECOND STRAIGHT NIGHT, BUT TRASHERS FAIL TO HOLD OFF QUAD CITY IN 3-1 LOSS
November 6, 2004
Paul Cabana and Brad Essex picked the 3rd period of Saturday's game in Quad City to score their first goals of the season, snapping a 1-1 tie and sending the Mallards to a 3-1 win over Danbury at the MARK of the Quad Cities.
Danbury scored first for the 3rd straight game as Brent Gretzky's 3rd of the season came on the power play from Bruce Richardson and Mario Larocque at the 7:39 mark of the 1st period. However the Trashers were limited to just 29 shots compared to Quad City's 43 and were stifled for the remainder of the game.
Quad City tied the game on Greg Barber's 4th of the year at the 17:49 mark of the 1st on an assist by Mike Kompon, also on the power play. A scoreless second was followed by the Mallards' 3rd period outburst as Cabana scored at the 4:53 point followed by Essex's goal at the 10:11 mark. Kompon finished with three assists in the game.
Scott Stirling faced 43 shots and stopped 40 after saving 46 of 48 on Friday night in Ft. Wayne as the Trashers fell to 6-5-0 (12 points) with the loss. Quad City's win gives them a 5-4-0 (10 points) record this season.
BAYRACK'S TWO GOALS, STIRLING'S 46 SAVES LEAD DANBURY TO CONVINCING 5-2 WIN IN FT. WAYNE
November 5, 2004
Mike Bayrack tallied two goals in a game for the 2nd time this season, but unlike the last time it occurred in Adirondack, Bayrack's goals led the Trashers to a convincing victory as they defeated Ft. Wayne 5-2 on Friday night at the War Memorial Coliseum.
The Trashers jumped out to a 1st period lead on Bayrack's first goal, a shorthanded marker at the 4:10 mark of the 1st period. Danbury took a 2-0 lead on Bruce Richardson's goal at the 12:11 mark, also an unassisted goal.
Ft. Wayne would bounce back to eventually tie the game on goals from Dustin Virag in the 1st period and Tom Nemeth in the 2nd before the Trashers took a permanent lead on John Morlang's 5th of the season at the 13:34 mark of the 2nd period from Brent Gretzky.
Scott Stirling turned aside 46 of 48 shots faced, including several tough ones in the 3rd period to keep it a 3-2 Trashers lead. Danbury would gain breathing room on Bayrack's second goal of the night at the 14:18 mark of the 3rd from Nicholas Bilotto, while Doug Christensen's first goal of the season from Jim Duhart sealed the 5-2 win at the 18:52 mark of the final frame.
