Countdown to Face-off Kalamazoo Wings Vs Elmira Jackals Wings Stadium Kalamazoo, MI Saturday, March 15, 2003 7:30 PM

Game Preview The K-Wings will be looking to rebound in tonight's rematch against the Elmira Jackals. Kalamazoo stormed out of the gate last night scoring the games first two goals, however, the Jackals led by a three point night from Mike Hofstrand and two goals from Mike Thompson would score the games next five goals to defeat the K-Wings 5-2.Tonight will mark the five of six meetings between the K-Wings and the Jackals this season. Kalamazoo is 0-2-0 this season against Elmira at Wings Stadium.

With 7 games remaining in the regular season tonight's playoff implications. The K-Wings enter the game in fifth place in the Western Conference with 60 points, 6 points behind the Flint Generals and 4 points behind Rockford for the final playoff spot in the UHL playoffs. With 81 points the Jackals are still vying for the top spot in the Eastern Conference. Elmira enters play tonight just 3 points behind both Adirondack and Fort Wayne for first place in the east.

While the K-Wings know it's now or ever for their playoff hopes, they should get some help tonight, as UHL Rookie of Year Candidate Tyson Turgeon returns to the K-Wings lineup. Turgeon has missed the past three weeks due to injury, but is ready to return here tonight.

It's Up to Nine Yannick Carpentier and Kurt Miller enter the game with an 9 game point streak. For both players, the nine game streak not only their longest streak of the season, it is also a K-Wings season High. The nine game streak is also the second longest current streak in the UHL, one game behind Rockford's Kevin Kerr, however, it is a ways away from the season high of Adirondack's Hugo Belanger, who scored in 21 consecutive games.

He's Baaack The K-Wings will welcome back Tyson Turgeon. Turgeon has missed the past three weeks due to injury. The rookie sensation is the leading rookie scoring defenseman in the UHL with 20 points.

Vs the East The Kalamazoo Wings have had their problems against Eastern Conference opponents this season. Entering tonight, the K-Wings are 11-19-3 versus teams from the east, including 1-3-0 against Elmira. The K-Wings will have to figure out the eastern conference to make a run at the post season. With 7 games remaining (including tonight) the K-Wings will have Eastern Conference teams in 4 of those games.
