RiverBlades Drop Shootout to Jackson
March 15, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Arkansas RiverBlades News Release
Dean Stock and Buddy Smith each tallied power-play goals in the second period, but the Arkansas RiverBlades dropped a 3-2 shootout to the Jackson Bandits Saturday in Jackson, the longest shootout in RiverBlades' history.
After a scoreless first period, Dean Stock got the Blades on the board first, scoring his 6th on the power-play from Buddy Smith and Garry Toor.
Jackson would then tie it with a power-play goal of their own at 13:08, as Eric Fortier got his 17th of the campaign assisted by Bryan Forslund and Scott Kelman.
However, three minutes after that, Buddy Smith lit the lamp on the man advantage with his 26th of the year set up by Mike Sandbeck and Dean Stock.
Jackson would tie it in the third, as Brent Gauvreau scored his 16th of the season from Jeff Bes and Kevin Mackie.
There was no scoring the rest of the way, forcing overtime and then a shootout.
The shootout went a team-record 8 rounds, and Buddy Smith and Damon Whitten scored for Arkansas, but Brent Gauvreau, Scott Kelman and Billy Newson scored to give Jackson the 3-2 victory.
Jimi St. John made 36 saves in his first game since February 15th, giving the banged-up Scott Fankhouser the night off. Adam Hauser stopped 16 of 18 for Jackson.
Jackson outshot Arkansas 38-18 for the game, and each team was 2-for-9 on the power-play.
Arkansas returns to action this Monday, March 17th, hosting the Mississippi Sea Wolves at the Alltel Arena. The puck will drop at 7:05 p.m., and full details about the special night can be found on www.riverblades.com.
