Condors Comeback for 3-2 Win in Fresno
March 15, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Bakersfield Condors News Release
Fresno, Calif. â Shawn Byram scored once and added two assists as the Bakersfield Condors defeated the Fresno Falcons 3-2 at Selland Arena on Friday night.
The Condors came out firing on goaltender Mark Gowan, who picked up where he left off after making over 50 saves in last Sunday's meeting between the two teams. He stopped 11 shots in the first nine minutes of play, including a couple of point-blank chances from Paul Rosebush. It was Rosebush that made it a 1-0 game, firing a one-timer home for his 15th of the season at 9:47. Fresno was not phased, however, and they eventually would get their own lead. Colin Embley scored on the power play and Ryan Kiley added his second of the season with less than a minute remaining in the period.
The second period featured significantly less offensive opportunities, and only one goal. Christian Skoryna tied the game with his 24th goal of the season with just 1:41 remaining in the period. Through two periods, the Condors led in shots 29-13 and the score was tied 2-2.
Bakersfield pushed in front early in the third period with Shawn Byram's 20th goal of the season. Byram became the sixth Condor to reach the 20-goal plateau on the season with the tally. Bakersfield held onto the lead with some great defense, and kept the Falcons to just 20 shots in the entire contest. The Condors surpassed 40 shots on goal for the second straight game against Fresno and took the 3-2 win to improve to 12-1-1 against the Falcons.
The Condors host the Idaho Steelheads on Saturday night at 7:00pm at Centennial Garden. It's the third "Jersey Off Our Backs" raffle and auction of the season, sponsored by KLLY 95.3 and Burlington Homes. Everyone in attendance will have the chance to win one of five jerseys to be given away during the night. Proceeds from the auction will benefit CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Kern County.
Individual tickets can be purchased at the Centennial Garden Box Office, by calling Ticketmaster at 322-2525, online at ticketmaster.com or stopping by any Ticketmaster location. The box office will open on Sunday at 10:00am. Season and group tickets may be purchased by calling 324-PUCK (7825) or by visiting the Condors office next to Centennial Garden.
