Kalamazoo Wings News Release

KALAMAZOO, MI- While always keeping in mind ways to give back to the community, the Kalamazoo Wings have made $22,300 in charitable contributions through the first month of the season, the team announced Wednesday.

"It's very important to me that our hockey franchise continues to give back to the community we value so much," said K-Wings director of sales Toni Daniels. "We will continue to partner with non-profits and charities in the coming weeks, months, and years. My personal goal is to have each and every game tied to a great cause."

Beginning with the annual Susan G. Komen game on October 23, the Kalamazoo Wings helped earn over $10,000 through a silent auction and a live jersey auction. All proceeds were donated to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, an organization that, since 1982, has led the way in saving lives from breast cancer through innovative research, community health outreach, advocacy and programs in 30 countries.

On Friday, November 13, the Wings teamed up with Communities in Schools for a clothes drive and chuck-a-puck, which helped earn just over $1,000 in cash and clothes for Communities in schools. The organization strives to meet the needs of thousands of Kalamazoo students before, during, and after school, so that outside problems interfere less with learning and students can stay in school and graduate on time.

Saturday, November 14, was the annual honor our heroes game in which the Kalamazoo Wings welcomed Talons Out Honor Flight to Wings Event Center. Through a live jersey auction, the Wings helped raise over $11,000 for Talons Out, an organization that flies World War II veterans to Washington, D.C. at no charge, so they can visit their WWII memorials.

As the season goes on, the Wings have scheduled many more fundraising games that maintain the organization's commitment of giving back to the community.

The next fundraising game at Wings Event Center is Sunday November 29, at the annual teddy bear toss night. Fans are encouraged to bring a stuffed animal to throw on the ice after the first Kalamazoo goal. All collected toys will be donated to Bronson Children's Hospital in Kalamazoo.

The Kalamazoo Wings will spend their next three games away from Wings Event Center with a Thursday morning (10:30 a.m.) contest at Toledo, a Friday night (8:00 p.m.) tilt with Fort Wayne, and a Saturday evening (7:30 p.m. CST) showdown with the Evansville Icemen. All contests can be heard on AM 1660 The Fan or ECHL.tv.

Single-game tickets are now on sale! Tickets can be purchased at kwings.com or at the Wings Event Center box office. Box office hours are Monday-Friday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. A $2 discount is applied on all tickets purchased before the date of the game.
