Elmira Jackals News Release
ELMIRA, NY - November 18, 2015 - Niklas Lundstrom made 46 saves in his debut with the Jackals, who received goals from Spiro Goulakos and Scott Jacklin en route to a 2-1 victory.
The first period was a penalty filled affair as there were seven minors called. On their second power play chance, the Jackals broke the ice as Spiro Goulakos tapped in his second goal of the season following a beautiful pass from the slot by Justin Bernhardt at the 9:32 mark. The teams traded power plays for the remainder of the period with both penalty kill units doing an effective job.
In the second period, it became evident that Niklas Lundstrom would be the primary story of the contest. As Manchester peppered the net with 22 shots in the second period, Lundstrom helped keep the Jackals in front. At the 14:15 mark, Scott Jacklin, who was playing in his first game since November 10, scored his third goal of the season off the rebound of a Mark Bennett shot, who earned his second assist of the year. One minute and fifteen seconds later, the Monarchs broke Lundstrom's shutout bid as Derek Arnold scored off a rebound to bring Manchester within one. It would be all that Lundstrom would give up.
The third period turned into the Niklas Lundstrom Show, as the young Swede making his Jackals' debut, turned aside all 18 shots he faced in the period. Each of his saves were necessary as the Jackals would not score in the third period either. Thanks to Lundstrom's brilliance, the Jackals held on for a 2-1 victory, snapping a two game losing streak.
Niklas Lundstrom made 46 saves on 47 shots to earn the win in his first game as a Jackal, while Colin Stevens made 17 saves on 19 shots for the Monarchs, and was saddled with the loss.
