Alaska Snaps Winless Skid against IceMen
November 18, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Evansville IceMen News Release
EVANSVILLE, IN - The Alaska Aces snapped out of an eight-game winless skid Wednesday with a 6-2 win over the Evansville IceMen at the Ford Center in the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
While the IceMen outshot Alaska 12-8 in the first period, the Aces scored the only goal of the frame when Justin Breton lifted an unassisted backhander over the glove of Evansville's starting goaltender Keegan Asmundson.
The Aces opened the game up with three goals in the first half of the second period and chased Asmundson from the game in his first IceMen start. Garet Hunt scored back-to-back goals three minutes apart to give Alaska a 3-0 lead and Felix-Antoine Poulin added the fourth at 9:31 of the period.
That led to the goalie change, as Dustin Carlson, who arrived in Evansville this afternoon from his emergency call-up from the SPHL's Peoria Rivermen was thrust into action. The 29-year-old, who last played in the ECHL in 2012-13 stopped 10 of 12 shots in relief.
Down 5-0 entering the third period, Evansville outshot Alaska 17-3 in the final 20 minutes and picked up two goals from Tyson Fawcett, but the Aces coasted to their first victory since October 30. Troy Redmann stopped 38 of 40 IceMen shots in the win.
The IceMen bounce back Friday for a 7:15pm showdown with the Orlando Solar Bears at the Ford Center in the only meeting of the year between the two. Evansville then hosts Kalamazoo Saturday at 7:15pm, before traveling to Anchorage next week for three more meetings with the Aces over Thanksgiving Weekend.
