Orlando Solar Bears News Release
GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Orlando Solar Bears (7-3-1-1), proud affiliate of the NHL's Toronto Maple Leafs and the AHL's Toronto Marlies, overcame a blown three-goal lead to beat the Greenville Swamp Rabbits (5-8-1-0) by a 6-5 score in overtime in front of a crowd of 2,007 on Tuesday night at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena.
Brady Vail one-timed a power-play goal past Allen York from the right circle at 3:57 of the first period to open the scoring. Jack Rodewald stole a puck in the attacking zone and buried an unassisted goal at 9:53, and Eric Faille continued the run at 9:53.
Greenville got on the board when Michael St. Croix snuck the puck past Rob Madore at 11:25, but Faille would restore the three-goal lead with a one-timer from the left circle at 17:42.
The Swamp Rabbits inserted Jeff Malcolm in goal to start the second period, and the home team rallied with a goal by Josh Nicholls at 2:29, and Scott Fleming scored twice in a 20-second span at 17:34 and 17:54 to make it 4-4.
Orlando went ahead with another power-play goal from Max Nicastro that deflected off the end boards and banked off the pads of Malcolm into the net at 3:20 of the third period, but Ryan Rashid tied the score at 5-5 at 4:51.
After 60 minutes of regulation play, the game was settled in overtime when T.J. Foster wristed a shot from the slot under the glove of Malcolm at 2:38.
Madore earned the win with 44 saves on 49 shots; Malcolm took the overtime loss with 16 stops on 18 shots.
