Kalamazoo Wings News Release
Fort Wayne, IN - Led by a 31-save performance from goaltender Jordan Binnington, the Kalamazoo Wings pushed their unbeaten streak in regulation to five games (4-0-1-0) with a 4-1 victory Wednesday night against the Fort Wayne Komets.
Notching his eight goal of the season with a power-play strike from between the circles, Chris Lawrence gave the K-Wings an early lead 3:04 into the contest. With an assist on the marker, Sam Ftorek upped his point streak to five games.
The goal marked the seventh straight game that the K-Wings have earned a power-play goal.
Kalamazoo has experienced a role-reversal with the man-advantage against Fort Wayne. After starting the season 0-for-27 on the power-play against the Komets, the goal from Lawrence was Kalamazoo's fourth power-play tally in their last seven attempts versus Fort Wayne.
Deflecting a Yannick Veilleux slap shot, Justin Taylor (12th) broaden the K-Wings lead to 2-0 midway in the second period. Taylor's goal extended his point streak to a K-Wings' season-high nine games, while Veilleux lengthened his point streak to eight games. Also earning his second assist of the night was Ftorek.
Fort Wayne cut the deficit in half two minutes later with a rebound tally from Simon Danis-Pepin (4th).
Responding with less than two minutes remaining in the period was Nick Sirota (7th), who recorded his 100th career goal on a backhander. Matt Caria extended his point streak to five games with the primary assist, while Lawrence tacked on his second point of the contest with the secondary assist.
The K-Wings closed out the scoring with an empty-netter from Veilleux (13th), who increased his goal streak to a team season-high six games. David Pacan and Taylor earned assists on the goal. Pacan lengthened his point streak to five games with helper.
Kalamazoo will continue their four-game road swing this Friday, February 28th with a 7:30 p.m. encounter against the Orlando Solar Bears at the Amway Center.
The K-Wings will return to Wings Stadium on Friday, March 7th to commence a three-game home stand with a 7:30 p.m. face-off versus the South Carolina Stingrays on Carnival Night.
