Stockton Thunder News Release
Stockton, Calif. - The Bridgeport Sound Tigers, the Stockton Thunder's AHL affiliate, have called up forward Joey Martin, signing him to a professional tryout contract, Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Rich Kromm announced Wednesday.
Martin, 25, is the Thunder's current leader in points and assists and is second on the team in goals with 16. He set a new pro career high with 51 points this season in 52 games, passing his total of 49 points in the 2010-11 season with the Toledo Walleye. Martin is tied for the sixth most points in the ECHL this season so far, and his 35 assists are the fourth most in the league.
The Thorold, Ontario native is in his third professional season since graduating from the University of Nebraska-Omaha. This is his third call-up to the AHL. He has played in 12 career AHL contests with the Houston Aeros and Texas Stars, registering two points on two goals. In 175 ECHL games with the Thunder and Walleye, Martin has 145 points (54 goals, 91 assists).
Martin joins Andrew Clark as the second Thunder player signed to a professional tryout contract by the Bridgeport Sound Tigers this year.
The Thunder will be on the ice tonight for the Bulletproof Energy Skills and Drills Competition at Stockton Arena at 6:30 p.m. The event is only open to Thunder season ticket holders who can use the invitation e-mailed to them or their ticket from the upcoming home game on March 2nd to attend tonight's competition. Team captains Garet Hunt and Ryan Constant have selected teams from the current Thunder roster who will compete in five events including the fastest skater competition, accuracy shooting, hardest shot and more. Members of the Stockton Colts junior hockey team will also be part of tonight's event.
