K-Wings name kids club

Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings of the United Hockey League announce the new official name of their Kids Club will be K-Wings Kidz.

After holding a “Name the Club” contest throughout southwest Michigan, the winning entry came from Blake DeSchot, who lives in Kalamazoo.

DeSchot heard about the contest and the club from Kalamazoo Public School’s Newspaper The Excelsior, which ran numerous articles promoting the club. Blake’s entry was one of hundreds that were submitted during the K-Wing public appearances, as well as through kwings.com.

For being the winner of the contest, DeSchot will receive a prize package, which will be unveiled during the K-Wings home opener on Saturday, October 23rd versus the Port Huron Beacons.

The K-Wings are calling their home opener K-Wing-A-Palooza, which is a fan-friendly event sponsored by COOL 101, Michigan Orthodontics Specialist, and Meijer, that will include events before, during, and after the game.

Prior to game-time, nationally renowned band Mid-Life Crisis will be performing in the North Parking Lot of the complex. Also, in the North Parking Lot of the complex prior to game-time, Vertical Edge, the areas largest supplier of inflatable games will have several games for kids of all ages. For those fans looking to eat dinner, the K-Wings will be selling bratwurst and ice cold Pepsi for just $1 each.

The exclamation point to the pre-game festivities will be the game puck for the evening’s game being brought to Wings Stadium by parachutist, who will be delivering the puck just before doors opening at 6:30 p.m.

When fans enter the building, they will receive a 2004-05 magnetic schedule courtesy of Meijer. The K-Wings are encouraging fans to arrive to the game early; besides the festivities outside, the first 1,000 fans in the Wings Stadium will receive Thundersticks courtesy of Michigan Orthodontics Specialist.

Also appearing at K-Wing-A-Palooza will be the “ZOO”perstars. The inflatable creatures that are based on professional athletes haven’t appeared in Kalamazoo for over two years. The “ZOO”perstars will be performing during the first and second period intermissions.

After the game, K-Wing fans will get the opportunity to skate with their hometown team, as the entire 2004-05 team will participate in a public skate.

While the face-off between the division rivals is set for 7:30 p.m., the actual K-Wing-A-Palooza extravaganza will commence at 5:45 p.m.

K-Wings Kidz is sponsored by Airway Lanes, Citizens Credit Union, Culvers, Jimmy Johns, Perkins Restaurant, Putters Family Fun Center and TDS Metrocom. Kids interested in joining K-Wings Kidz can register at Kalamazoo Wings home games, kwings.com, or by stopping by the K-Wings office located at Wings Stadium.

All kids that join K-Wings Kids will receive an official membership card, an exclusive hockey jersey, a birthday card from Slappy, a free Culvers Kids Meal, a $5 savings account certificate from Citizens Credit Union, a private autograph session with some of your favorite K-Wings’ players, a free meal from Perkins, a free kids sandwich from Jimmy John’s, a free soda for Little Caesars, the ability to participate in a overnight lock-in at Airway Lanes, coupons from Putters Family Fun Center, and a Slappy quarterly newsletter. The membership fee for K-Wings Kidz is an affordable price of $20.

Individual game tickets for all Kalamazoo Wings hockey home games for the 2004-05 season are currently on sale at the Wings Stadium Box Office. Box Office hours are Monday-Friday 10am-6pm or on Saturday’s from 10am-2pm. Fans can either stop by during regular business hours or call (269) 345-5101.
