TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: The first of 17 meetings and the first of nine in Richmond. The âDogs were 17-4 vs. Adirondack last season. Hugo Belanger, who had 32 points in 21 games vs. the âDogs last season, returns to lead the Frostbite. The âDogs were 6-3 vs. Adirondack at home last season. The âDogs are third in the Eastern Division with three points. Adirondack is fourth with one point. Both clubs average more than 35 shots per game.
LAST ACTION: The âDogs edged Port Huron 6-5 at the Coliseum Saturday. The âDogs rallied for three third period goals to earn their first win. Port Huron jumped out to a 2-0 lead early in the first period. Richmond tied the game only to fall behind twice more. The Beacons rallied to tie after Richmond took a one goal lead in the third. J.J. Wrobel's goal with 3:08 to play finally put the âDogs ahead to stay. David Brosseau had a hat trick. Francis Belanger added four assists. Josh Tataryn had a hat trick for the Beacons. The Frostbite lost 4-3 in a shootout Wednesday at Elmira. The Frostbite out-shot Elmira 43-17 but had to rally from a 3-1 third period deficit to force the shootout. Justin Kelly had a goal and assist for Adirondack.
'DOG BITES: Richmond acquired former Adirondack defenseman Bryan Cummings in a trade from Missouri this week. The âDogs released F/D Sean Keane. The roster now stands at 18. The âDogs play three games in three nights in three cities this weekend. It is the first of ten three games in three nights weekends this season. The âDogs are averaging 35.5 shots on goal through two games to opponents 24.5. Port Huron was 5-15 on the power play in two games. David Brosseau tied a club record and notched the âDogs fourth all-time hat trick with three goals Saturday. Brosseau had four goals and five points over the weekend. Francis Belanger had a four assist game Saturday. Frank Burgio picked up his first pro point with an assist Saturday. The âDogs finish a three game homestand tonight, then hit the road for six of their next seven games. Richmond plays eight straight games vs. Eastern Division clubs starting Friday. 51 of the âDogs 80 games are vs. Eastern Division opponents. Six âDogs had points in each of the first two games: Francis Belanger, David Hymovitz, Jonathan Gagnon, David Brosseau, J.J. Wrobel, and Mark Turner. Burgio was the only other âDog to tally a point in the first two games. Going back to last season Francis Belanger has points in eight straight regular season games. J.J Wrobel has points in four straight regular season games.
FROSTBITE NOTES: Adirondack has three players with NHL experience in their lineup: Derek Gustafson, Bruce Gardiner, and Sylvain Cloutier. The Frostbite is in a stretch of four games in five nights this week. Adirondack welcomes nine players back from last season.
NEXT UP: The RiverDogs hit the road for four straight games starting tomorrow night in Elmira (7:20 WTOX 1480). Richmond returns home Wednesday, November 3 for a 10:30 AM School Day game vs. Elmira. Adirondack is home tomorrow night vs. Danbury.
