Otters hand Hogs first loss
October 22, 2004 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Rockford IceHogs News Release
Rockford, Ill.- The Rockford IceHogs winning ways were temporarily put on hold Friday night as the Missouri River Otters topped the Hogs 5-3 before 3,561 at the Rockford MetroCentre. Otters center Jim Montgomery scored three goals and chipped in two assists to vault Missouri. Montgomery figured in all five River Otters goals. Missouri struck first in the opening period when Justin Quenneville scored at 5:41 for a 1-0 lead. The IceHogs would later tie the contest at 1-1 when winger Eric Labelle knocked home his second goal of the season. The Icehogs controlled most of the frame, out shooting Missouri 15-7.
After the break however, Rockford lost the momentum and Missouri capitalized, powered by Montgomery. The center began the scoring at 2:37 of the second period to give Missouri the lead. The veteran later set up winger Glenn Detulleo at 9:31 to push the lead to a pair mid-way through the period. Montgomery then finished off the scoring at 14:10, beating Hogs goalie Michel Robinson.
Rockford wouldn't roll over and tightened things up in the third period. Head Coach Steve Martinson pulled Robinson in favor of an extra attacker while the teams skated 4-on-4 mid-way through the third period, and winger Jason Ralph scored his first goal of the season to close the gap to 4-2. Center Olivier Proulx narrowed the margin to 4-3 at 17:18, beating Jason Tapp five-hole.
Unfortunately for Rockford, that's all they could muster and Missouri would add an empty net goal at 19:12 from Montgomery to put the Hogs away and complete his hat-trick. Hogs winger Chris Gobert had two assists for his third straight multi-point game.
Next Game: Saturday, October 23 vs. Motor City Mechanics. Game time is 7:05 p.m. The Mechanics make their first ever trip to Rockford. The first 1,000 fans to the game will receive a key chain flashlight just in time for trick-or-treating, courtesy of the Generator Store and 23WIFR. Also, don't forget your skates so you can skate with the Hogs following the games.
